MLK in SF

Last Monday (Martin Luther King) Julia and I both had the day off. So we decided to go on a little excursion and explore SF. Our first destination was to a restaurant called "The Stinking Rose" in the North Beach right next to China town and this is what we had: Bagna Calda (Garlic soaking in a hot tub) Garlic cloves, oven-roasted in extra virgin olive oil and butter with a hint of anchovy. A wonderful treat for spreading on our house-baked focaccia bread. Served at your table in an iron skillet. BBQ Garlic Chicken Pizza w/ fresh mozzarella & basil Neon Ravioli Cherry Tomatoes, olives, basil, olive oil & roasted Garlic cloves

After lunch we were stuffed so we took a stroll around China town to settle our bellies and peruse the Asian DVD movies. We stopped by the Golden Gate Bakery and picked up some pineapple bun's and pork pastries for Jeannie, it was a beautiful day.

Next stop, the Sony "Metreon". Parking is always a hassle when your in the city as well as the traffic, but we found a garage only a block away w/ my trusty navigator. The first floor of the Metreon has PlayStation stuff and Sony style electronics. The second floor has an arcade and virtual bowling. Julia and I played the boxing game and Time Crisis 4 as you can see the Champ about ready to knock out his opponent. Third floor - movie theaters we decided to go see "Curse of the Golden Flower" I have to support our Asian actors =) The movie was alright. Only a couple action scenes and the plot was very dramatic w/ a few twists and lots of deception. Gong Li and Chow Yong Fat star together in this very colorful movie.

After the movie we met up with Peter for dinner @ "Be My Guest" Thai cuisine on Clement and I have to say it was very good. This restaurant, I highly recommend not only for its elegant sterile white decor but for its very large and taste portions. The white individual hand crafted plates added to its uniqueness and the price is pretty reasonable about $10 /person. We shared the"Bloody Curry" (Duck), Sea Bass, and Pad Thai. Peter ordered a drink called "Virgin Kiss" a non-alcoholic pink fruit drink from the bar, sorry I forgot to take a picture of the food.
