Devo Fuel: {Heavy Heart}
"There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your indignation; There is no health in my bones because of my sin. For my iniquities are gone over my head; As a heavy burden they weigh too much for me.” (Psalm 38: 3-4)
I sat down for lunch yesterday across from one of my co-workers that started the same day that I did. He is a little over weight and once he knew I was a personal trainer, asked me from the beginning to help him lose some weight. It has been six mo. now and he has lost about 10 lbs. so far, but his weight has been fluctuating up and down recently. I try to keep him accountable by asking him how his work outs are going and what his plan is as far as nutrition and diet.
Yesterday, When I asked him how his diet was going. He came back at me "Why are you being so nosy? It sounds like what I do and eat is more important to you, than to me!" I answered "As a personal trainer I feel a responsibility to my clients and friends to ask you how you are doing and to see if you need any help" Reply from co-worker "Well, I'm not one of your clients! Do you go around asking everyone how there diet is?" My reply "yes" Co-worker "My diet is my own responsibility and not your! I know what I have to doing. You should know how hard it is to change someones eating habits!" I tried to explain that I wasn't trying to be nosy and as a friend show that I care about every ones activity level and eating healthy.
The conversation ended and things fell silent. After he left I just sat there for a while staring out the window thinking about what had just transpired and what the ramifications would be. My eyes started water and my heart felt heavy. "What have I done?" Did I push to hard? Why are my eyes leaking?
God has the power to free us from any sin if we will do our part and cry out to Him. The first step is to give up control and admit to yourself and to God that you are in way over your head. This is the most important step of all. After you surrender yourself to the power of God, you will find healing by believing in Jesus Christ and in His power. And the remaining steps will continue to bring restoration and create personal transformation that can be found only in Christ.
