BATMAN: Dark Knight (2008 July)

Who do you Fear?

"The LORD is my light and my salvation ; Whom shall I fear ? The LORD is the defense of my life ; Whom shall I dread ? When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. Though a host encamp against me, My heart will not fear ; Though war arise against me, In spite of this I shall be confident. One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek : That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD And to meditate in His temple."(Psalms 27:1-4)

Fear has been a part of our emotional makeup since the fall of man. When Adam and Eve rebelled against the Lord, they hid themselves from Him and were afraid as recorded in Genesis 3:10.

[In that same way you see Batman a symbol of Fear hide behind a mask not only to protect those close to him, but strike fear into the hearts of those unruly. Its an interesting contrast to Joker who wears makeup and strikes fear into everyone he meets, has no motive other than to create chaos and anarchy. As a third wheel you have Harvey Dents charater who shines bright at a "white knight" DA who champions good and the poster boy for justice and hope.]

Things haven’t changed much in the world of Gotham. Anxiety often affects our thinking. It controls our actions. Anxiety can keep us boxed in and unwilling to go into unknown territory.

Let the truth help you defeat fear. God is Almighty. Through the Savior’s perfect life and his sacrifice on the cross, our two greatest enemies have been defeated, Satan and death. Jesus set us free from slavery to sin. The Devil has lost control over our lives. What’s more, we no longer face eternal separation from God. Jesus’ physical death has become the gateway to heaven, where we can live with the Father forever.

[Batman: Dark Knight is a fitting title for this movie, It is definitely defines the line between the dark and light side of Bruce Wayne who has to face many dificult decisions. Heath Ledger had an amazing performance playing the Joker and he will be greatly missed. My favorite quote from Joker is when he is explaining one of his stories as to how he got the scar's on his face and he says "Why So Serious!" Its a great and powerful scene.

I recommend seeing this movie, whether or not your a Batman fan the story and twisting plot is enough to make you hang onto your seat and cheer for the heros when they triumph.]

God is always with us. Through the indwelling Holy Spirit, we as believers have God not only near us but also in us. Nothing can ever separate us from Him. That includes past mistakes, present circumstances, or difficult people.

God is actively involved. God promises His help. He always keeps His word. God knows what is happening in our lives. He can turn hardships into a time of spiritual growth and ultimate blessing.

Hey, glad you enjoyed Batman. Viv and I might see it, but we might also wait until it comes out as a rental. Nice insights into the nature of fear. That's definitely one of the major themes in the Batman series. In fact I think that's one of Batman's (comic book version) greatest strengths is that he does not fear anything (once he got over his parent thing). Biblically we know that God doesn't want us to live in fear. A couple of verses that come to mind are 1 John 4:18 (no fear in love) and 2 Timothy 1:7 (not given a spirit of timidity). In Cambodia I had to wrestle with fear a little with our sickness and with some of the things we saw, but I definitely rested assured knowing that, as a child of God, I could not lose. Even if we die, it just brings us that much closer to God.
