Hello Friends and Family,
For those of you, who do not know, I have been training for my first Triathlon this past couple of months. I was challenged this year to try one by a friend of mine, Sonja I'm. People would say, boy you are in good shape! Have you lost some weight, You should try a marathon or something. I thought about it and would always ask people who have done a long distance race about there experience in running a marathon, because I don't know to many tri-athletes. They would always have horror stories of long time injuries incurred from running long distances from not running properly, knee injuries, shin splints, and basic wear and tear on your body from impact shocks. I felt like a multi-sport event would be a good way to start and a new way of living, that I could keep up for a long time without too many injuries before I try a marathon.
I did some research on-line and found some information on what it would takes to be a Tri-athlete and what does a multi-sport event entail. Then I searched for local venues and clubs that would have group training class to prepare for a Triathlon. I came across a organization called Total Body Fitness affiliated with Fleet Feet, a local shoe store that sponsors races. I signed up for the Spring class, which started in Feb. and met 2-3 times a week. I've learned about nutrition, core strength, proper fueling, running efficiency, swim techniques, heart rate zones, training schedules, essential tri-gear, and just the routine patterns and maintenance that other athletes use.
It has come down to race week and I am ready, The training is finished and its time to relax the muscles and maintain without injury. I will recover from the hard workouts and load up on good fuel and carbohydrates. Get my gear together, get extra sleep, get a massage, and prepare mentally for race day.
If you would like to come out and support me, The Ice Breaker Triathlon is Sunday, April 23rd out in Granite Bay. Starting time 9 am and it will go on into the afternoon. I am hoping to finish each segment within about 45 min. and my goal is just to finish this time and get a feel for this event. (Sprint Distance: Swim .5 miles, Bike 14 miles, and Run 4 miles.)
