Monterey Bay Aquarium

Post Proposal, Sunday morning after the lovely continental breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express, by the way it was very nice hotel and I recommend staying at one if your on a budget but would like at least a three star stay.

We headed down "cannery row" to the Monterey Bay Aquarium which use to be an actual cannery (anchovies & calamari) back in the early 50's and 60's. I love going to the aquarium its one of my favorite things to do and I use to want to be a marine biologist. So I could swim with the fishes and hang out all day learning about the ocean. We got there around 11 am and it was perfect timing to see the Outer Bay feeding of the large tuna. I kind of wish we got there a little bit earlier to get a better spot for viewing, but that was definitely one of the highlight of the day, besides proposing to Julia. Next we decided on a meeting spot/time for lunch and we all kind of wanted to see different things first so we all kind of went our separate ways. Julia and I went to the Coastal Reef tank which is one of the larger tanks in the aquarium to check out the feeding of the fish. The female docent and the guy in the tank feeding the fish have been married for 47 years and Julia and I just thought it was neat to see this couple enjoying there work and working together. We hit the penguin exhibit and the tide pool area.

Extensive Jelly Fish section and Otter world.

We left Monterey about 5:30 pm and hit traffic along highway 156 and part of 101. We stopped on the way back for dinner at a very good Korean restaurant recommended by Frank & Esu. The food was wonderful with alot more variety of side dishes at a very reasonable priced. Service was less desirable and we had to split our party up to accommodate for seating.

Jerry, Lorraine, Tracey, and Mark enjoying yummy Korean food!
Souvenir for me from the Aquarium, I love turtles!
