This was a challenging course in the sense the bike course (15 miles) consists of 3 laps of rolling hills, two major climbs, and a pretty nice long decent. It takes a smart cyclist when it comes to bike handling and efficiency when climbing in and out of the saddle. To conserve energy it is most efficient to drop to the lowest gear and spin at a higher rate in the saddle. For those small to med. hills build your momentum going up and stay at a higher gear get out of the saddle and attack the hill to the top. On the decent switch to a high gear and tuck your head behind your handle bars and hold on, at the bottom try to keep the momentum going by peddling as fast as you can to help you up the next hill.
I liked this course because it is very scenic with lots of trees, the water temp was in the low 70s and calm and there were beautiful homes to look at along the way. The 3.8 mile run did take some effort, with some killer hills that would literally slow you down to a crawl. I just tried to keep focused on keeping my legs moving and slowly made my way up the hills.
Over all I think it was a pretty good race, No major problems or cramping and I got to enjoy the thrill and excitement with Friends and share my experience with the one I love. Julia has come a long way in her training and together we encourage each other to becoming healthy and more fit.

Nice work at the tri! You are a machine! I still need a bit of work, especially on that bike. Thanks for the bike tips, that makes sense.
It was really cool having everyone out there, especially the newbies. Hopefully we can do this again.
I think I'm out for the Oct 12th tri. I've been doing some weight training to try to build-up some strength. Hopefully that will pay dividends in the Spring. I'm at least shooting for the June Tri-4-fun. Possibly an earlier tri if you know of one.
